Painted pumpkins by my pumpkins

Most weekends when both my kids are home all day I try to come up with a craft that they can do each day. Yesterday we made a picnic and today we painted pumpkins. I picked up 3 small pumpkins and let them go to town. My son Aidan did a pretty good job covering his and Apryll's doesn't really look like she did anything cause she kept wiping it off but there is a little bit of paint on it. I myself did one with them and got creative.

Recycle your fabric scraps

O.k so I was bored one day and didn't have money to spend on new fabrics and had plenty of scrap fabric laying around so I took out my scraps and started cutting strips. I took a regular old wire hanger and bent it into a circle and started tying the strips to the hanger. To keep the strips from fraying I sprayed it with hairspray. I put it on my front door and it looks nice there. I may plan on making some out of christmas fabric too!

Wedding Dress for antique doll

My neighbors have just recently helped me and my family through a life changing situation. They were angels in disguise. Well to try and repay them the kindness they have shown me and my family I decided to make a dress for her doll. She has had this doll since she was a child and it is very old. It stands a little over a foot tall and is completely solid rubber. So after a couple of fittings (had to make sure I could get it up over the arms seeing as how the arms don't bend) this is how it turned out and I am pretty pleased with it.

Santa's magic key

I found something like this online and I have been wanting one for awhile. Well I finally got around to making one for this Christmas. It was really simple and can be decorated in any fashion you like. This is what I came up with and I didn't spend much to make it.
Supplies: Red and white sewing thread, 1 piece of white foam as support for holder to make it more stiff, 1 piece of white and red felt, a magic key, a picture of santa, fabric paint or marker, whatever decorations you want and ribbon, small piece of card stock and printed poem.
1. Take white felt and fold in half, take piece of white foam and cut it a little smaller than folded piece of felt and stick in between.
2. Take red piece of felt and cut out small pocket to fit across bottom. Glue santa pic to front of pocket. Once dry sew all the way around the holder closing everything but the pocket.
3.Take fabric marker or paint and on the top white part of the holder write "Santa's Magic Key"
4. Let dry!
5. Take card stock and glue poem to card stock and let dry.
6. Take red felt and cut a strip to make a loop and sew it to the back of the holder so you will have something to hang it up with.
7. Take key and tie ribbon to it and then tie it to the loop you just sewed to the back of the holder.
8. Punch hole to top of poem and repeat #7.
9. Tuck key in pocket and let poem hang.

Minnie Mouse Halloween costume

I decided to make my daughter her Halloween costume this year because the costume that I wanted was way to expensive and if I make it out of cotton fabric she can still wear it as a dress. I ordered minnie mouse ear hair clips from etsy.com and ordered the fabric from fabric.com. The total amount I spent on her costume was cheaper than buying an already made costume. The tulle underneath is a separate piece worn like a tutu, it ties in the back. I bought her some multi colored pearl like kids jewelry that she can wear with it. Ignore the clothes underneath I didn't feel like stripping her down. She will be wearing a long sleeve black shirt underneath and some black winter tights so she will stay warm.

My new stuffies

Here are two more items marked off of my christmas list. The first one is a multi colored funky dino for my daughter. She loves dinosaurs but you can't really find any for girls so I made one for her. It has special treasure pockets, one on each side.

The second is a floral pink elephant for my niece. Again it has special blue floral treasure pockets on each side.

Recycled Christmas Crafts

For those who are on a budget or those who like to recycle or those who just like to craft a simple and easy Christmas decoration that can cost you little to nothing to make. The first one is a Walmart bag Christmas wreath.

1. Get lots and lots of bags and if you are a frequent walmart shopper you probably have many.
2 Get a regular wire coat hanger and shape it into a circle using the hanging part as the part that
hangs it up.
3. Take the bags and along the seam cut out the back of the walmart bag where it is plain white.
4. Take the white part of the bag that you cut out and cut it into strips
5. Now take the strips and cut those in half thus creating squares.
6. Take the squares and tie them onto the hanger making sure to pack them together tightly.
7. When wire hanger is completely full fluff and decorate.
And wallah you have a walmart bag Christmas wreath! Enjoy!
